The Man with the Big Hat
A few years back, Director Austin Sayre began production of The Man with the Big Hat, a documentary film about Steven Fromholz. Steven was a musician, singer-songwriter, actor, activist, river guide, and Poet Laureate of Texas. Steven was also a friend of mine: we had tried to make a film together in 2012 called Past Hondo, based on a screenplay we wrote together while I was deployed to Iraq in 2011. Sadly, Steven passed in early 2014. In 2019, director Austin Sayre reached out to me about the film and footage. We struck up a friendship. I am honored to be a producer for The Man with the Big Hat. Steven’s family, friends, and fans will be so happy with what Austin and crew have created. Thanks to all involved. We hope to premiere the film in 2024.

Productions have been working on the definitive Shawn Phillips documentary series, following the life and over 60 year career of singer-songwriter Shawn Phillips; whose turbulent career in the music industry has taken him everywhere - from sold-out stadium tours worldwide and multi-record deals with major labels, to playing sparsely-attended venues and busking on the Santa Monica pier - and everywhere in-between.
Be on the lookout for this legendary guitar virtuoso and folk-rock icon, along with his upcoming docuseries. Shawn is a good friend, and as a life-long fan, I’m humbled to be involved with his documentary project.
